WEEK ONE
1000 SHOWS: HOW TO SELL OUT A SHOW
OBJECTIVE 1: BUILD A BAND & SELL OUT YOUR SHOW
TOPICS:
take your live show from just an idea, to a sold-out room. from building your band and choosing the right venue, to the nitty gritty of ticket prices, DOS schedule, promotion, and venue payout. I will using anecdotes from my 1173 shows I’ve played since high school.
week two
WEEKEND RUNS & WORLD TOURS
OBJECTIVE: BOOK A DIY TOUR (LOCAL, REGIONAL, NATIONAL, WORLDWIDE)
TOPICS:
learn how to build a DIY tour at every level, from local gigs and weekend runs to national + international tours. we will discuss gig swaps, DIY festivals, major festivals, anchor dates, and more. I will specifically be telling you my anecdotes from touring all 50 states, Canada, the UK, Europe, and South Africa.
Week three
BONNAROO: FESTIVALS, SUPPORT TOURS, & BOOKING AGENCIES
OBJECTIVE: GETTING SIGNED TO A BOOKING AGENCY, BOOK FESTIVALS & SUPPORT TOURS
TOPICS:
learn how to land a booking agent, get onto DIY and major festival lineups, secure support slots, and grow your band through live shows to an international level. I will specifically be telling you about my experiences at Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, and Hinterland, as well as my opportunities with Fetty Wap, Flipturn, Greta Van Fleet, Briston Maroney, Arlie, Casey Lowery, Moon Walker, Trash Panda, and more.
Week FOUR
50 STATES, 30 DAYS: WORLD RECORDS & TOUR MANAGEMENT
OBJECTIVE: FIND A MANAGER & TOUR MANAGER
TOPICS:
go behind the scenes of planning and executing an ambitious tour. from managers, routing, advancing, riders, and settlements to the strategy behind turning a crazy idea into a record-breaking stunt. I will be focused on my recent 50 States in 30 Days tour, as well as my experiences with two managers and a handful of tour managers. I have also tour managed international tours and will share my experience.
Week FIVE
SPACE PROM: HOW TO THROW A FESTIVAL
OBJECTIVE: THROW A DIY FESTIVAL & GROW A LEGITIMATE FESTIVAL
TOPICS:
learn how to create your own festival from the ground up, including finding a space, booking big name artists, selling tickets, securing sponsors, managing logistics, and growing a DIY event into something bigger. I will be specifically talking about Freezfest and Space Prom, while bringing in friends who have grown their festivals into bigger beasts.
Week SIX
MUSIC CITY MAYHEM: HOW TO WIN A COMPETITION
OBJECTIVE: HOW & WHY TO WIN A MUSIC COMPEDITION
TOPICS:
learn how to approach music competitions strategically, build fan participation, turn your existing audience into active supporters. create a narrative that gets both fans and judges invested. I will specifically be talking about Music City Mayhem and the online voting strategy that won me a slot at Live On The Green and Lightning 100’s recognition.
